Apollo.io alternatives worth switching to in 2026

If Apollo's bounces are the problem, Hunter (no charge for failed searches) or Sluice (bounces refunded exactly) fit. If its international data is the problem, Cognism or Kaspr cover Europe better. If seat pricing is the problem, Clay and Sluice have no per-seat fees. Instantly suits teams who mostly need sending.

What actually goes wrong with Apollo?

Apollo is the default for a reason: a large database, sequences, a dialer and integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach and Salesloft, from $49 per seat a month billed annually (as of October 2026). When people leave, it is usually over one of three things, all reported by third parties rather than measured by us.

  1. Bounces. Reported bounce rates range from 15 to 35%. Every bounce costs a credit and chips at your sending domain's reputation.
  2. Data outside the US. Reported accuracy is around 88% in the US and 60 to 73% internationally. If you sell into Germany or Singapore, that gap is the whole problem.
  3. Billing. Apollo's Trustpilot score is 2.9, mostly over billing and account suspension disputes. Pricing is per seat, so a team of four on Professional at $79 pays $316 a month before adding a fifth person.

Apollo's own policies are better than its reputation here. It does not charge for contacts without a valid email and refunds a verified email that bounces within 30 days. The catch is the waterfall: it charges per source that returns data, including unverified emails found along the way.

Pick the alternative that fixes the problem you actually have. Swapping one large database for another rarely fixes bounces.

If bounces are your problem

Hunter

  • Suits: teams who know the company and need the right person's email, verified.
  • Price: free with 50 credits a month; Starter $49 a month (2,000 credits), or $34 a month billed annually; Growth $149 (10,000 credits) (as of October 2026). Finding an email costs 1 credit, verifying one costs half a credit.
  • Why it helps: Hunter's pricing page says that if no email is found, no credits are used, and verification is cheap enough to run on every address before sending.
  • Weakness: it is built around domains, not people search. You will not filter "VPs of finance at 50 to 200 person logistics firms" the way you do in Apollo.

Sluice

  • Suits: founders and small teams who would rather pay only for addresses that hold up.
  • Price: Starter $9 a month, Working $39, Agency $149, with credits worth one cent each; directory reveals are 5 cents per person who scores 70 or more (as of October 2026). See pricing.
  • Why it helps: every address is independently verified, only verified addresses are billed, and a bounce is refunded exactly what it cost, with no time window.
  • Weakness: no built-in dialer, mobile numbers are expensive, HubSpot is the only CRM integration (no Salesforce), and Sluice is new with no public reviews yet. Our side-by-side with Apollo has the full list.

If European data is your problem

Cognism

  • Suits: teams selling into EMEA who call as much as they email.
  • Price: not published. Standard and Pro include 5 seats; contracts are reportedly $15,000 to $60,000+ a year, annual.
  • Why it helps: strong EMEA coverage and phone-verified mobile numbers ("Diamond Data"); one credit reveals one contact and re-viewing is free.
  • Weakness: the annual contract and a reported weaker showing in the US and APAC. See our Cognism alternatives if that is already your situation.

Kaspr

  • Suits: solo reps and small teams prospecting European contacts from LinkedIn.
  • Price: free with 15 B2B email credits a month; Starter $49 a month billed annually ($65 monthly) with unlimited B2B email credits and 1,200 phone credits a year; Business $79 annually ($99 monthly) (as of October 2026).
  • Weakness: it works best one profile at a time from LinkedIn. It is a lookup tool, not a sequencer or a list builder.

If seat pricing is your problem

Clay

  • Suits: a team with one technical person who will build workflows for everyone.
  • Price: free tier; Launch $167 a month with 15,000 actions and 2,500 data credits; Growth $446 (as of October 2026). Unlimited seats.
  • Why it helps: no per-seat cost, and a waterfall across 150+ providers, so coverage outside the US can beat a single database.
  • Weakness: two currencies make the cost of a list hard to predict, and third-party reviews put the learning curve at 20 to 40 hours. No built-in sending.

Sluice also has no seats: one workspace, several people, roles and invites, on one monthly plan.

If you mostly used Apollo to send

Instantly

  • Suits: cold email teams where deliverability and volume matter more than research.
  • Price: lead credits from $47 a month for 1,500 credits, 450M+ contacts; no credit when no verified email is found (as of October 2026).
  • Weakness: less depth in filters and no dialer. It is a sender with a database attached, not the other way round.

How to test before you switch

Take 100 contacts from your last Apollo export that bounced or never replied. Run them through two of the tools above on free tiers or the cheapest plan. Count verified emails returned and what each cost. That one afternoon tells you more than any review, including this one. If you also want to know what you are really paying per usable lead, our cost-per-lead breakdown gives the method, and the Clay alternatives page covers the workflow-heavy end of the market.

Questions people ask

Why do Apollo emails bounce?
Third-party tests report Apollo bounce rates of 15 to 35%, with accuracy around 88% in the US and 60 to 73% elsewhere. Any large static database decays as people change jobs, and the effect is larger outside the US where coverage is thinner.
Does Apollo refund bounced emails?
Apollo refunds a verified email that bounces within 30 days and does not charge for contacts without a valid email. Its waterfall, however, charges per source that returns data, including unverified emails found on the way.
Is there a free Apollo alternative?
Hunter has a free plan with 50 credits a month, Kaspr a free plan with 15 B2B email credits a month, and Lusha 40 free credits. Each is enough to test data quality on your own market before paying.
What is the best Apollo alternative for Europe?
Cognism is the usual answer for EMEA, especially for phone-verified mobile numbers, but it is sold on annual contracts. Kaspr is the lighter, self-serve option, from $49 a month billed annually.

Sluice quotes the worst-case price before anything runs and charges only for lookups that found something, so finding out costs close to nothing.
